About this Live Yes! Connect Group:

Our group in the Houston area brings likeminded people together to learn, listen, enlighten and laugh. Our Live Yes! Connect group is here to connect, educate and empower those living with any kind of arthritis. We will strive to improve the quality of life for those of us living in this large metropolitan areas by raising awareness of the tried-and-true therapies and coping mechanisms that make it easier to live with the stress, pain and uncertainty of arthritis. Combined we have lived with arthritis for decades, we are drawn to those who don't let their disease define them. We look forward to hosting meetings in Houston growing our reach in the Houston area. Houston is a large city but there are not many opportunities for face-to-face interaction with others who have similar conditions. We look forward to reaching as many people as we can to help them know that they aren't alone. We are here to help motivate one another! Our ASN Leadership represents arthritis with leaders covering a range of diagnosises and different ages and stages in life.

About:  Vince

Diagnosed with JRA in 1967, I have undergone well over 37 surgeries, including multiple joint replacements, and been on a host of medications to try and maintain an active quality of life. Having just turned 51, I have been married to my wife Wendy for almost 15+ years, and we have been blessed with 2 adorable girls, Joy and Hope. I've attended multiple AI Gatherings as well as many AF conferences. I've hosted and co-chaired 2 Gathering conferences and am thrilled to be able to return after missing 2014.

Having lived in the Houston/Sugar Land area since the mid-1970s, I've benefitted a great deal from a top notch healthcare and medical center. And yet, it was not until the early 1990s while dealing with my first consideration for hip replacement surgery, when I realized that there was NO support system or peer network for me to turn to for advice, counsel, or inspiration. Houston is a phenomenal place to live, and it's still growing. The fact that there is not an established Live Yes! Connect group presence in an area with such an enormous demographic mix of people is unacceptable. Over the years, I have met at least 10 people, living in my vicinity that I know would benefit from a support group, and I decided to make that a reality by launching this group.

About: Anna

Howdy Y'all!  I am excited to be a part of Live Yes! Connect. In 2017 I joined Vince in leading this group. My symptoms started innocuous enough 12 years ago with a mild case of Raynaud’s Phenomenon. Since then I have picked up cousins of the autoimmune family with Mixed Connective Tissue Disease, Rheumatoid Arthritis and Lupus. I was privileged to work as a certified sign language interpreter for several years and coordinating interpreting and captioning services for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing before having to medically retire. I have utilized a variety of medical and holistic therapies to manage my condition and am always researching ideas to add to my toolkit.  I enjoy serving in this capacity and look forward to growing our reach in the Houston area.

About: Danny

I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis at the age of 7. Due to the progression of my illness I was forced to drop out of high school and get my GED. Once I started to get better I managed to complete college and start what most people would call a normal life. But I spent most of my life avoiding my illness emotionally. After volunteering with the Arthritis Foundation over the last few years I realized I could have used someone going through the same thing as me to talk to as I was growing up. I find that these support groups and people I have met through the Arthritis Foundation have changed my outlook completely for the best. I want to bring that joy to someone going through the same. I want to facilitate this group because I want to help those younger than me going through the same. I want to let them know they are not alone and help them any way I can with my experiences as a young adult living with Arthritis.  I am looking forward to  to connecting more young adults with people that have been through the same. Help get them to transition from the juvenile group to these support groups.

About: Jennifer

I got diagnosed with Rheumatoid arthritis two years ago at the age of 18. My life went from being captain of my high school softball team for three years straight, to being at home not being able to move. It was a dramatic change for me. At first, I didn't know what to do. I didn't think that I was ever going to be able to be active again. I had to quit school and my job at the time because I wasn't aware of when a flare up might happen. It took time, but about two years and 8 different medications later, I am slowly getting back to being active and have been working an amazing job for 6 months now! It took a lot of patience and positivity to get to where I am now, but it was well worth it. The support I received from my family made the journey a lot less stressful and I hope that I can do the same for someone else!

I look forward to encouraging the younger generation to join and be able to gain knowledge from one and other!
