Arthritis Support Network Leader: Cristal Type of Arthritis: Rheumatoid Arthritis
About this Arthritis Support Network:
My goal is to provide a safe place for anyone in the South Fort Worth area to feel welcome and encouraged as they strive to live a happy, successful life with their condition by learning how to be proactive in managing their condition and enriching their lives by connecting with others.
Hello, my name is Cristal. I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis in early 2015. After a long road of struggles, I finally found a rheumatologist that was proactive in getting to the bottom of my condition. Since early 2001, I had been dealing with random excruciating joint and bone pain from my neck to my feet and never could figure out what was going on until 2015, when it became quite clear that the symptoms were pointing to rheumatoid arthritis. I am still searching for that right medication to help me reach remission, but the last couple of years, I have realized how important it is to get educated about your condition, connect with supportive people, and learn how to have healthy self management strategies and great communication with your doctors. I have not known of others in my family with arthritis or rheumatic conditions so from the beginning, this journey was very foreign to me and my family.
In the past I was a teacher in the preschool classroom and through education and experience, I became a childcare director. For many years, I loved working with children and watching them grow and learn new things. Then as a director, I loved working with the families and helping my teachers grow in their roles as well as exercising my leadership skills to create the best childcare program I could imagine. Now I work from home and I enjoy taking care of my home, gardening, sewing, crocheting, and crafting, and of course caring for my pets. I also enjoy making myself available to meet with friends and volunteer my time in the community and in my church. I have had quite a few volunteer roles including executive committee positions in the booster club, committees and events at church, and even in the political arena. The biggest joys in my life have been living through all the ups and downs with my best friend, my husband by my side and watching my son grow into a fantastic young man.
I think that it is very important for us all to have a better understanding of arthritis types and how to be a good support for each other through this great adventure called life. I am looking forward to meeting you and partnering with you as we move forward and learn how to live the best life possible! Come and join the fun!
I am leading an Arthritis Support Network become early on I realized how vital connection and support is in this journey and I soon found that there weren't any support groups in the South Fort Worth area. I think we all need support and encouragement and I look forward to the education, friendship, and fun we will enjoy together in this group!
