Live Yes! Connect Facilitator: Erica Type of Arthritis: Rheumatoid Arthritis
About this Live Yes! Connect Group:
My vision for this Live Yes! Connect is to create an inviting setting for individuals living with rheumatic conditions, and their supports, to have a place to gather to meet individuals with similar conditions. My hope is that we can empower and educate each other. It's important for this area of Wisconsin to have a presence of a support group related to rheumatic conditions.
My name is Erica and I live in La Crosse, Wisconsin, which borders the Mississippi River. I work full-time, going to school part-time, and enjoy spending time with family and friends. I have a dog, Boz, who is a big part of my life.
My journey with rheumatoid arthritis started when I was 11 years old. I was first diagnosed with lupus, as I had the telltale signs - butterfly rash, sun sensitivity, raynaud's phenomenon, and intense fatigue. When I was in my early 20's, my symptoms seemed to morph into more of the rheumatoid arthritis symptoms. Just a few years ago my rheumatologist finally felt confident in saying I have rheumatoid arthritis, not lupus.
I try to treat myself with respect by eating well, hot yoga, and by getting lots of rest. I'm definitely not perfect in maintaining these things, because life happens! My goal, though, is to be gentle with myself and tell myself I'm doing the best that I can.
