About this Live Yes! Connect group for JA Parents:
To help support parents and caregivers who have a child with rheumatic disease understand ways of improving their child’s life with pain and help educate them about the disease. Live Yes! Connect let individuals know that they are not alone and gives them a voice to share with others.
I am a mom of two children with Juvenile arthritis. My daughter was diagnosed with Enthesitis related JIA when she was 9 and is now 14. My son was diagnosed with JIA and Tmj arthritis at 15 and is now 17. I, myself also have had arthritis for over 20 years. After my children were diagnosed with arthritis I probably went through every emotion one can face. I did so much research and fortunately I came across the arthritis foundation. The Arthritis Foundation has been very helpful to my family. I have held a scared little girl while she gets her blood drawn and dealt with an angry teenager who insist they only want to be a “normal"child. They don't want people to know they have arthritis and don't want to take their medicine and many things in between. Last year we learned about the JA Conference. That conference changed our lives and I would recommend it to anyone but especially to anyone with struggling kids. My daughter had a completely different outlook after our first conference. She went from being angry to being hopeful. She would not talk about her arthritis and now wants to be an advocate. She already knows she wants to do her senior project on something related to arthritis. That is amazing to me. That happened because she met other children dealing with the same thing she deals with everyday.
That is the power of support! I am more than happy to answer any questions or just talk to anyone if they need it. It's very overwhelming when you hear you or your child has arthritis. There are online sites that are great but sometimes it's nice to just have a local face.
