Vitality Ballet is the premier arts and wellness fitness program in St. Louis. Developed by a former professional ballet dancer, the program is specifically designed for adults of all ages who have little or no dance experience. The class consists of "artistic exercise" combining music with flowing movements and stretches based on a traditional ballet class, but done right from a chair. Each class focuses on key physical and cognitive elements that are important for the aging body including balance, strength, posture, flexibility and coordination. Each class helps to inspire lifelong movement at the pace, ability and level of each individual helping promote a life full of vitality.
Vanessa is the owner and founder of Vitality Ballet and a former professional dancer with 25 years of classical training. Originally from New Jersey, Vanessa moved to Missouri to dance with the St. Louis Ballet in 2010. She has performed with ballet companies all over the country dancing soloist and principal roles. Vanessa was on faculty with the Saint Louis Ballet School, and has taught at numerous ballet schools across the country. She trained at the Conservatory of Dance at SUNY Purchase, Princeton Ballet, Miami City Ballet School and STEPS on Broadway in New York City. In an effort to make the physical and cognitive benefits of ballet accessible to older adults who could benefit the most from mobility and balance exercises coordinated to music, Vanessa started Vitality Ballet in 2012 with the encouragement and collaboration of her mom, an Occupational Therapist and fan of ballet. Vanessa is an alumna of Washington University in St. Louis and loves musical theatre, salsa dancing and going antiquing.
