Hello, my name is Karen DiVito and I am happy to be representing AI in the Boston area! I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Business/Psychology and spent most of my career in the Healthcare field. A little bit about me; In 1995 I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis and in 2005 diagnosed with Mixed Connective Tissue Disease and multiple secondary conditions. This past summer of 2010 I was diagnosed with a Neurological Disease called Chiari Malformation. My Healthcare background has served me well being faced with multiple-diagnosis.
In the past 16 years that I have been living with chronic illness I have found out who my real friends are, I have learned to be less judgmental, to be more patient and to truly understand what is important. Although no one wants an illness to transpire in their lifetime, I can honestly say without a doubt that I am a better person because of it. It is a true statement that no one else truly “gets it” as well as someone else who has a comparable disease and/or disorder. That is why I wholeheartedly stress the importance of reaching out and connecting with others who are also living their lives with chronic illness. I believe to be successful in the ongoing management of chronic illness it is a combination of multiple factors including; positive encouragement, staying informed, and social interaction.
