About this Live Yes! Connect Group:
Our vision is to encourage, support and mentor more people with any form of arthritis to find their optimum quality of life and participate in various facets of our group to help it grow.
My personal experience with arthritis started with watching it impact my father when I was a child at a time when the treatments available now were not an option for him. He tried every "natural cure" ( which still continue to cycle in and out of popularity) as well as mega corticosteroids and at the end, daily injections of ACTH. When I came down with RA when I was 17 years old, I was determined to maintain the best quality of life in spite of arthritis and have personally benefitted by the evolving treatments that are now available and were not options for my father. I have continued in the daily battle to maintain the best quality of independent living that I can. My goal is to help others have tools so they can "Live Yes" too!
I believe in a great truism that when you reach out and help others you also help yourself. I believe through education coupled with encouragement that people with arthritis can maximize their lifestyle.
I was a Children’s Librarian. One day when a school group visited the public library I worked at, I noticed the children were holding their hands funny while doing a finger play with me. I looked at my hands and realized that they were imitating me. Later, I discovered that I had rheumatoid arthritis.
My hands have invited people to share their stories of arthritis with me. I have been able to tell them that it not only effects the old but the young as well. I tell them that there are over 100 types of the disease. Belonging to the Arthritis Support Network is another way I can help educate, encourage and empower people with the disease.
I would like to see the existing group survive and thrive.
I’m a jack of many trades. I’m an accountant for the Architectural & Construction industry for over 20 years. I’ve been developing hobbies like painting, baking, crafting and drawing. I’ve had RA diagnosed since 2011. My mom's twin and my dear aunt Luz Maria suffered for many years and died from complications of RA. This is an illness that’s affected my family for many years.
I’m joining the South Miami group to help the ladies with anything that I can do. I’m also learning from the many educational opportunities offered in our monthly meetings. I also want to promote that knowledge to others in my area.
I am somewhat outgoing, rarely met a stranger. Comfortable in small and medium groups. Love my family: nieces and nephews inspire my life.
