About this Live Yes! Connect group for JA Parents: To help support parents and caregivers who have a child with rheumatic disease understand ways of improving their child’s life with pain and help educate them about the disease. Live Yes! Connect let individuals know that they are not alone and gives them a voice to share with others.
Hi! My name is Stephanie Porter. I am the mother of three wonderful daughters and a wife of 27 years. My oldest daughter, Kelli, is a graduate of Clemson University. She teaches 4th gr. My middle daughter, Jessica, is a nursing student at UNC Chapel Hill and my youngest daughter, Jocelyn, is a student-athlete at the University of Virginia.
I have been involved with the Arthritis Foundation for the past 5 years, helping with the Jingle Bell Run/Walk event held in December, and the Walk to Cure Arthritis Event held in June.
Two of my three girls were diagnosed with Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis. Both Jessica and Jocelyn were diagnosed with JRA when they were 8 years old., a year apart. Jessica is managing her arthritis on her own now that she is away at college. The first year, when she was in a dorm, was probably the trickiest with getting her refrigerated medicine delivered to her. She currently gives herself a weekly injection of Humira and takes a daily pill of Leflunomide (Arava). Jessica is an inspiration to anyone living with Rheumatoid Arthritis. She is a very kind, caring and compassionate person...and will make an awesome nurse one day! Jocelyn's arthritis is currently in remission. She has had a few arthritis flares in the past since being diagnosed. When she has flares, she typically gets a cortisone injection and a prescription for Mobic. She did develop uveitis once and had to treat it with a steroid.
We have been very fortunate to have a wonderful team of pediatric rheumatoid arthritis doctors that have been there to help us along the way. And I am so thankful for each one of them.
I am very passionate about helping you get the answers you may need and connecting you to the many resources that are available through the Arthritis Foundation.
